WE7.8 Neck of Femur Fractures with Co-existent History of Malignancy: Do Full-length Femur X-Rays Change Fixation Method?

چکیده
Abstract Introduction In neck of femur (NOF) patients presenting with co-existent history malignancy, it is regarded as good practice to obtain pre-operative full-length X-Rays (FLF-XRs) identify metastatic disease distal the fracture site and aid operative planning. Whether availability FLF-XRs in trauma meeting influences surgeon's choice fixation method between intramedullary nail (IMN) or dynamic hip screw (DHS), unclear. Methods We performed a retrospective analysis all NOFs that underwent surgical at major London hospital over 3-year period (2018–20), collected data on any FLF-XR status (IMN vs DHS). Our results showed 308 extracapsular during this time period, 23% had these, 55% undergone FLF-XRs. Ca who were more likely undergo IMN than DHS statistically significant degree (p<0.05) those did not, despite only 3% these radiographs demonstrating femoral metastases. Results The findings preliminary audit raise questions around value particularly if opted for majority cases normal radiographs. next phase study establish whether IMN/DHS fixation, without FLF-XRs, amongst cohort correlate better worse complication rates.

Full-Length Radiographs Of The Femur In Patients With A Femoral Neck Fracture and Co-Existent Malignancy- Are They Of Benefit?
It is recommended that full-length femoral radiographs should be obtained in patients presenting with a femoral neck fracture and a co-existent history of malignancy. Over a two-year period, we identified 133 (47 males, 86 females) patients admitted with a femoral neck fracture and a co-existent history of malignant disease, representing 6.5% of all femoral neck fractures admitted within this t...
متن کاملExternal fixation of femur fractures in children.
Forty-two children (44 femur fractures) were treated by primary external fixation and early weightbearing (1984-1989). The fractures were reduced anatomically when possible. Average age at fracture was 9 years 7 months (range, 2 years 5 months to 17 years 8 months). Duration of external fixation averaged 70 days (range 42-117 days). Of 176 pins, 15 (8.5%) were inflamed and five (2.8%) required ...
متن کاملTreatment of Fractures of Neck of Femur
1. The proper use of a Smith-Petersen nail is the best method of treating intracapsular fractures of the neck of the femur. Its simplicity and accuracy represent a great advance over older methods. 2. The Smith-Petersen nail is only the provision of an efficient internal splint. Its great merit is that it allows the patient to get up within a few days. 3. The Smith-Petersen nail will neither en...
متن کاملFixation of Undisplaced Fractures of the Neck of Femur with Multiple Cannulated Screws
Results: Sixteen patients with impacted and undisplaced fracture of the neck of femur were treated with multiple cannulated screws. The mean follow up was 26 months; mean age was 38 years (range 14-58 years). Thirteen/16 patients (81.25%) were satisfied with the excellent results of the treatment. Two patients (12.5%) showed nonunion and valgus osteotomy, compression of the fracture and rigid i...
متن کاملFractures of the Distal Femur Fractures of the Distal Femur
The distal end of the femur traditionally encompasses the lower third of this bone. This zone varies greatly in the literature, from the distal 7.6 cm to the distal 15 cm of the femur. This chapter deals only with fractures that involve the supracondylar (metaphyseal) or intercondylar (epiphyseal) areas of the distal end of the femur. Distal femoral fractures that are purely diaphyseal are disc...
